HAMPTON – One and a half years after the Peninsula Town Center opened, the general manager says expectations are on target.
The upscale shopping center is mixed with residential space as well as other businesses. It opened with great fanfare last year, all while the economy was struggling.
General manager Raymond Tripp says office space is moving slow but retail occupancy is at 78% and apartment real estate is 100% occupied.
"Right now if you wanted to move in today, I wouldn’t have an apartment for you to move into. You'd have to wait at least 30 to 60 days."
Tripp says officials didn't want the peninsula town center to just be in the community, rather have The development be an active part of it.
Three more stores are expected to open at Town Center by the end of the year. Those are J. Jill, Teavana, and Sneakers.
