UPDATE 6/11: Larry Coney Jr. was arrested Wednesday in New York on unrelated charges. He will be extradited back to Virginia.
HAMPTON -- Hampton Police are trying to find the man who they say is responsible for the murder of a three-year-old boy.
Emergency crews were called to a home in the 100 block of Wells Court Sunday night. That's where they found 3-year-old Ka'ron Burns unconscious and suffering from "substantial internal injuries." He was taken to a local hospital where he died Tuesday afternoon.
Police are looking for 22-year-old Larry Eugene Coney Jr. in connection with the child's death. He is wanted on one count of homicide and one count of aggravated malicious wounding.
One neighbor who lives near the victim and suspect told 13News Now that the news left her speechless.
“I watch a 4-month-old baby every day I would never imagine someone to take a child’s life. I have eight grandchildren. Man, I pray to God he turns himself in,” Monique Boykin said.
Another resident who lives on the same street, Whalan McDew, said he vaguely recognized Coney.
“I’ve seen his face before, I just can’t remember where I’ve seen it at.” he said. “To me anything against a child is just wrong, I mean I hope they get him.”
