HAMPTON--The City of Hampton is celebrating Olympic wins for two of its own.
Digital billboards went up Tuesday to honor Francena McCorory and Kellie Wells. McCorory, a Hampton native, won gold as a member of the U.S. Olympic women's 4x400 meter relay team. She's a graduate of Bethel High School and Hampton University. Wells, who won a bronze medal in the women's 100 meter hurdles, also graduated from HU.
"The billboards have been a popular topic on Hampton’s Twitter feed (@cityofhampton) today with McCorory tweeting 'wow how cool! I LOVE IT!' and Wells tweeting 'that’s absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to see it in person!'," City spokeswoman Tami Back told WVEC.com.
The billboards will be up for a week on I-64 and I-664 in Hampton.
Back says Hampton has a trade agreement with Adams Outdoor and receives free billboard space throughout the year. These billboards are a part of that agreement.
