HAMPTON -- Hampton University is taking a hard line against hazing.
President William Harvey is proposing to ban Greek organizations for 20 years if they're caught hazing.
University spokeswoman Yuri Milligan says Harvey has announced the plan, but is still working to create this new policy.
According to the National Collaborative for Hazing Research and Prevention, hazing is "any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or endangers them regardless of a person's willingness to participate."
In its study, "Hazing in View: College Students at Risk," it states, "More than half of students involved in clubs, teams, and organizations experience hazing. Alcohol consumption, humiliation, isolation, sleep- deprivation, and sex acts are hazing practices common across student groups."
