HAMPTON-If you've got a taste for chili, you can sample some of the best in the area at Saturday's Five Alarm Festival & Chili Cookoff in Hampton.

Teams will put their secret chili recipes to the test beginning at noon in a public cook-off lasting until 2:30 p.m. A panel of judges, which includes coaches from area high schools, as well as Hampton University Head Football Coach Donovan Rose, will choose the best chili.

Tickets for most chili samples are 50 cents each and proceeds from chili and food sales will be used for fire prevention and public education.

But there's a lot more than just chili at this event. There will be fire safety demonstrations, children’s activities and more.

The event is free, although there is a small fee for chili samples. It's Saturday, Oct. 6, from noon to 4 p.m. at Carousel Park, 602 Settlers Landing Road, in downtown Hampton. For more information, call 727-1210.
