HAMPTON -- A second person has died as a result of a head-on crash on I-64 early Sunday morning.
State police say Kimberly Brin died Monday from injuries sustained in the same accident which claimed the life of Sierra Smith.
Both victims were students at Christopher Newport University.
The women were riding in a car with three others when police say an SUV driving the wrong way hit them head-on.
The SUV was going eastbound in the westbound lanes. Smith was in the middle, rear seat with her lap restraint, but died on impact.
Four others sustained serious injuries in the collision, including the man police say was the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, identified as Jesse Evans of Newport News
Evans was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center. Police say he has major injuries which are not considered life-threatening. He was wearing his seatbelt.
The driver of the other car is Laval Noel. He was also wearing his seatbelt and was airlifted to Norfolk Sentara Hospital.
State police say that alcohol was a factor in the accident and charges against Evans are pending.
13News has learned that Evans was due in court this month on a DUI charge from a different case.
