HAMPTON - A body found Monday in the woods behind a house in Hampton has been identified as a missing Newport News woman.
Police say the body is that of 28-year-old Candace Patrice Banks, who was last seen on Jan. 12 and reported missing Jan. 25.
Officers on foot patrol in the area of Queen Street and LaSalle Avenue spotted the body on Dogwood Street around 9:30 a.m.
Investigators are trying to determine how Banks died and whether there's anything suspicious in the death.
Members of her family went to the scene in hopes of being able to talk with police about the situation.
