HAMPTON-Organizers and vendors hope the weather will be kind to this weekend's Bay Days festival in Hampton.
The big kickoff to summer - the Blackbeard Festival in June- was interrupted when a tornado struck. The festival went on Saturday after crews spent Friday night cleaning up.
Brandon Parrish from Goochland was ready for a big weekend.
"We need good weather instead of bad weather," he said.
This is the 30th year for the festival, which celebrates the importance of the Chesapeake Bay in the Coastal Virginia region, as well as the rest of Virginia and Maryland.
Another reason to celebrate tonight is the return home of Olympic gold medalist and Hampton University graduate Francena McCorory. She'll be available for photographs and sign autographs from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at a red, white, and blue tent in front of the Crowne Plaza Hampton Marina hotel at 700 Settlers Landing Road.
Check out the Bay Days Website for all the fun, food and displays.
13News Meteorologist Craig Moeller says there are chances for scattered showers or storms Saturday, with the best chances late in the day and night. As for Sunday, it should be about 10 degrees cooler.
