HAMPTON -- The Hampton Police Division has identified Darnell Lamont Williams, 30, as the suspect responsible for a shooting that took place over the weekend.

Emergency personnel received a 9-1-1 call around 8:45 p.m. Saturday in reference to a shooting in the 2000 block of Grimes Road. When officers arrived on scene, they located a 24-year-old male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper torso, police said.  The victim was then transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators say it appears the suspect and victim knew one another and were engaged in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting occurred.

Williams, who is a convicted felon, has several warrants out for his arrest; including one stemming from a shooting that took place in December 2013.

Anyone with information that will assist police is encouraged to contact the Hampton Police Division at 727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
