CHESAPEAKE-More changes are coming for drivers who use Dominion Boulevard in Chesapeake.

Dominion, between Bainbridge and Dominion Lakes boulevards, will close on Sunday, October 6 and won't reopen until Spring 2015.

It's part of the ongoing Dominion Blvd. Improvement Project, which began in January.

Look for detour signs that will take you to Bainbridge Boulevard and to a new detour route across from Dominion Lakes Boulevard, said Chesapeake Public Works spokeswoman Elizabeth Vaughan.

This closure will allow crews to work on the bridge spans that cross the Elizabeth River.

The $345 million project calls for construction of 95' high, four-lane bridge to replace the Steel Bridge, which will eliminate bridge lifts, an E-ZPass toll system to collect a $1.00 toll,  and more.

The Steel Bridge will be torn down once the first of two spans over the Elizabeth River is complete.

The project is expected to be complete in early 2017.
