About 700 Dominion Power customers are without power in the Chesapeake areas as of 7 PM. The outage originally impacted both Chesapeake and Portsmouth.
Dominion Power spokesman Jim Norvelle tells 13News Now that there was a connection between two power lines that failed near George Washington Highway near Battery Park Road around 4 PM that caused the outage. Norvelle says they are attempting to switch circuits to restore power more quickly.
At one point, there were nearly 5,000 customers in that area without power.
Power is expected to be completely restored by 11 PM.
