CHESAPEAKE-Police in two cities are searching for a man who stole items from a Portsmouth store.

Portsmouth Police were called to Dollar General in the 2800 block of Airline Blvd. just after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

The man got into a maroon Pontiac, which was spotted by officers a short time later. They tried to stop the car, but the driver wouldn't pull over, so the pursuit was on.

The car went onto I-264 West and then back onto city streets, ending up in Chesapeake at Lake Village Apartments near Gilmerton Road and Canal Drive, Officer Misty Holley told WVEC.com

The driver, a woman, was taken into custody; the suspect ran off. "At this point, we aren't sure about the woman's connection to the man," Det. Holley stated.

The investigation continues.

Information about what was taken from the store wasn’t immediately available.

Va. State Police and Chesapeake Police were involved in the pursuit.
