CHESAPEAKE - Police arrested one man and are searching for another man for a Thursday home invasion and robbery in Portsmouth.

The search for the suspects led police to Chesapeake, where several people were taken in for questioning following a several-hours standoff at Holly Cove Apartments.

21-year-old Deshawn Thomas Phillips of Chesapeake has been charged with robbery, abduction, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Police are looking for 30 year-old Keith Ryan Riddick, who they say is armed and dangerous.

Detectives recovered handguns and a controlled substance during the incident. Additional charges are pending and additional suspects are being sought.

It all started around 11:45 a.m. when Portsmouth Police were called about a home invasion in the 1000 block of Patriot Way. The suspects entered with guns and took items.

"When officers were headed there, a description of the suspect vehicle was put out and an officer saw it in the Holley Cove neighborhood," police spokeswoman Det. Jan Clark told WVEC.com.

Clark said people living in the complex indicated a suspect or suspects was in one of the homes

The Chesapeake SWAT team arrived and Portsmouth Police remained on the scene as some residents in adjoining units were evacuated as a precaution.

Around 4:15 p.m., officers located suspects at the Chesapeake complex

Because of the situation Thursday afternoon,  reverse 911s call were made to areas near the complex on Sloop Trail. Three schools had bus routes into the neighborhood:  Southeastern Elementary, Jolliff Middle and Western Branch High schools.  If buses encountered roadblocks and couldn't get into the neighborhood, they would take the kids back to the school where parents could pick them up, said Chesapeake Schools spokesman Tom Cupitt.
