11:15 a.m. update: Victim identified as 47-year-old Sean Mason of the 500 block of Susan Dr.

9/19 6:30 a.m. update: The preliminary investigation indicates that the man was in the road trying to stop traffic to allow numerous motorcycles to leave the Iron Tribe Clubhouse.  He was a member. Police say the vehicle that hit him didn't see him.  Police said several witnesses confirm that, police said. The man's name hasn't been released.  

CHESAPEAKE--Police were investigating a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian Wednesday night.  

The accident happened around 8:07 pm in the 2500 block of South Battlefield Boulevard. 

The pedestrian,  a 47-year-old man,  was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by Nightingale Air Ambulance.

Police spokesperson Dorienne Boykin said the department's serious crash team was on scene investigating.
