Battlefield Blvd. fatal crash
CHESAPEAKE -- A North Carolina man was killed and his passenger was injured when an SUV crashed head-on into their car on a Chesapeake road.
The SUV was going north in the 1100 block of S. Battlefield Blvd. and crossed into the other lane just before 5:00 p.m. Monday.
The people in the SUV weren't hurt, but the driver of the car, Theodore Cherry, 58, of Moyock, NC, died at the scene. The woman in the car with him was flown by air ambulance to the hospital. Her condition wasn't known early Tuesday.
Inside the SUV was an adult and a child.
The driver, Daniel Morrison, 50, of Chesapeake, a Norfolk Sheriff's Office deputy, has been charged with Reckless Driving.
He is on paid administrative leave and will return to work in two weeks, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Paula Miller told WVEC.com.
Chesapeake Police say it's unclear what him to veer into the other lane.
The investigation into the crash continues.
