CHESAPEAKE-About 150 people in Chesapeake will be without water for much of the day Wednesday as crews repair a broken water main.

The main is on Battlefield Blvd. south just north of the Great Bridge Bridge and one lane is closed.

Public Works spokeswoman Elizabeth Vaughn told WVEC.com it's unclear what caused the break.

"We cannot be sure until we dig down and see it, but it seems as though a branch valve to a fire hydrant has failed," she explained.

Vaughn stated about 142 condos and 18 businesses will be without water from around 9:00 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m. when crews shut the valves on the mainline.
