CHESAPEAKE -- A man was taken to the hospital after fire swept through his home in Chesapeake.

Capt. Scott Saunders told WVEC.com that crews rescued an elderly man from the burning home on Oak Grove Road around 6:30 a.m. and got him to the hospital.

Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the single-story home, he stated. It took about half an hour for the fire to be brought under control.

The cause of the fire, which badly damaged the home, is under investigation.

At 7:45 a.m., police were still directing traffic in the 700 block of Oak Grove at Green Tree. It wasn't immediately clear how long the roads would be closed.
