CHESAPEAKE-It looks like simple graffiti and many people call it an eyesore.

Detectives say it's often much more than that.  Many of the words and symbols are the secret language of crime used by gangs to claim their territory, let others know they're around or to send messages to rivals.

One detective calls it "ganglifics."

Tonight on 13News Now at 6 p.m., a member of the Chesapeake Gang Suppression Unit shows you how to interpret gang graffiti and why it's important that you learn the secret language of crime that may be written on the walls in your neighborhood.
