1/15 UPDATE: 71-year-old Melvin Glover, the driver of the second vehicle, has been arrested and charged with DUI.

CHESAPEAKE -- Five people were taken to the hospital Tuesday night following two separate accidents outside a Chesapeake church.

The accidents occurred in the 1900 block of Liberty Street around 8 p.m.

The initial accident occurred after a vehicle clipped a woman who was walking in the street, Chesapeake Police said.

A witness told 13News Now that a group of church-goers rushed to the woman's aid and attempted to alert an approaching car of the situation.

Police said four of the good samaritans were then struck by the second vehicle when it failed to stop.

The original victim was pinned underneath that car, according to the witness.

All five victims were then taken to a nearby hospital to be treated.

An investigation is now underway.
