CHESAPEAKE -- One person was killed after multiple shots were fired at a house party early Saturday morning in the South Norfolk area.
Police responded to a call about shots being fired in the 900 block of Butt Street at 1:42 a.m. When police arrived they found Deonta Cartwright inside a home.
The 18- year-old Norfolk teen was suffering from a gunshot wound. Cartwright was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say witnesses advised that Cartwright was attending a party at the residence.
Latoya Gibbs is Cartwright's sister. She says a fight broke out at the party, and her brother died protecting her. "I was in the kitchen, and I was going to see what was going on with him. He pushed me and my friend back in the kitchen."
Officials are searching for suspects and no additional information about the shooting has been released. Cartwright's mother, Clayte, is hoping for justice. "That was my baby. My son is gone, and I dont even know who did this."
