CHESAPEAKE (AP) -- A 15-year-old Chesapeake boy has entered an Alford plea to charges that he participated in an attack on former NFL player Ed Beard.
Tyhir Richardson is one of five teens charged in the October 2011 attack.
The Virginian-Pilot says Richardson entered his plea to two counts of accessory after the fact on Monday in adult court. He was placed on probation.
In an Alford plea, a defendant admits there's enough evidence for a conviction but doesn't admit guilt.
According to court documents, the 71-year-old Beard was riding his bicycle in his neighborhood when he came upon a group of teenagers assaulting a youth. Some of the teens attacked him when he tried to stop the assault.
The former linebacker played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1965 to 1972.
