CHESAPEAKE --  Students at Primrose School at Cahoon Commons in Chesapeake have spent the past few weeks completing extra chores at home to earn money for families in need.

The students combined their earnings and then kindergartners made their way to Farm Fresh to push shopping carts, scan shelves and fill grocery bags with non-perishable foods.

All purchases were donated to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia to bring warm meals to local families in need.

Many people are turning to food banks such as the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia for the first time because of the economic climate.  According to Feeding America, a total of 36 million Americans struggle with hunger, including 13 million children.
