CHESAPEAKE-- A couple chased down the people who they say tried to steal their car from their garage.

The Tolberts were in the middle of doing their usual morning routine when they heard someone take off with their Hummer.

Gina Tolbert jumped in front of the Hummer trying to stop the suspect, but he tried to run her over.

That's when Gina sprang into action and hopped in another SUV that was parked in the drive way and decided to chase down the boy taking off with her car.

Police say the 17-year-old male suspect was driving the Tolbert's Hummer and he was following his female cohort who was driving a Ford Escort. The 17-year-old got out of the Hummer and rejoined his friend, 18-year-old Micara Elllis, in the Escort.

The Tolberts continued to follow the boy and Ellis until they crashed near 664 near Route 58.

Officers said that the boy jumped out of the Escort and ran into the woods leaving Ellis behind. Police learned that the male suspect was carrying a gun so authorities put Joliff Middle School on lockdown for an hour.

Micara faces several charges including Burglary and Grand Larceny.

Police are not recommending that anyone chase after suspects for safety reasons.
