Fentress Naval Air Landing Field
CHESAPEAKE (AP) -- Chesapeake and the Navy are proposing a joint review process to determine whether proposed developments should be allowed near an airfield.
The agreement is an effort to prevent development from encroaching around Fentress Naval Auxiliary Landing Field.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that City Council is scheduled to vote on the proposal July 23.
Under the agreement, the city and the Navy would jointly review rezoning and conditional-use requests involving land within a zone that connects Fentress with Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach.
The review panel would make recommendations to the Planning Commission and the council.
City Attorney Jan Proctor says the Navy has a similar agreement with Virginia Beach.
