CHESAPEAKE – It’s been a busy 24 hours for fire departments in Hampton Roads.

Firefighters battled five fires – two in Chesapeake, one in Norfolk, one in Newport News and one in Portsmouth.

In Chesapeake, a church on Campostella Road was badly damaged around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. A firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

Tuesday night, fire swept through a mobile home on Ike Street and the Red Cross was helping two families.

Also Tuesday, Newport News investigators say an electrical problem sparked fire in a home on 14th Street. A police officer on patrol spotted the fire and called it in.

In Portsmouth Tuesday afternoon, fire displaced several people living in an apartment on Elliott Avenue.

In Norfolk early Wednesday, two adults and a child were displaced when fire damaged their home on Andrew Lane.

Several of the fires remain under investigation and the Red Cross is helping those who need it.
