Bicyclist hit by car
CHESAPEAKE -- A bicyclist has died a day after colliding with a car on a Chesapeake Road.
Police say 20-year-old Tyler Hirst of Portsmouth crashed with a vehicle while taking the exit ramp from Bainbridge Blvd. westbound onto Military Highway on the afternoon of Monday April 30.
Hirst died at the hospital Tuesday. On Wednesday, his organs were donated to several people.
"They're giving his heart, his lungs, his liver, we know that he's living on and helping other people," said close friend Charles Spearman.
Tyler's father Chris Hirst said he always told his son to wear a helmet, but he wasn't wearing one on Monday.
Tyler was very diligent and a hard worker. He worked at a fast food restaurant and at a tire shop. He spoke with his father over the phone on Monday to tell him he's going to give him a good deal on some tires.
"He says yeah dad, I got them, come down and I'll let you have them for thirty bucks a piece. He said this is your discount. I told him I loved him," said father Chris Hirst.
The accident investigation continues and no charges have been placed at this time, police stated.
