CHESAPEAKE -- An accident caused a power outage to thousands in Chesapeake.

It happened around 9:40 a.m. and is affecting traffic lights, parts of the Chesapeake municipal complex - city hall, courts, the jail, the 911 center - and the school administration building.

The accident took down a wire at Battlefield and Welch Lane. affecting more than 2,600 customers, Dominion Power spokeswoman Bonita Billingsley Harris told WVEC.com.

"Crews have restored power to 1722 customers, including the municipal complex. 950 customers remain without power. Crews hope to have about 600 of them back on by 11 a.m. and the rest by 2 p.m., Harris stated.

Police spokeswoman Kelly O'Sullivan told WVEC.com the truck involved in the accident did not stop.
