Cats die in house fire
CHESAPEAKE-- Nine cats were dead and 16 cats were injured in a smokey house fire in Great Bridge Wednesday night.
Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Scarlett Drive around 7:05 p.m. and when they arrived they saw smoke coming from a one story house. They were able to get the fire under control by 7:30 p.m.
According to Fire Captain Scott Saunders, no one was home at the time but there were a number of pets in the house. In addition to 9 cats being dead and 16 cats injured, one dog was also hurt.
There were no other injuries and the fire is under investigation.
