There's a new way of looking at WFAA.com.

A special version of our Web site is now ready for the rapidly-growing number of cell phones and personal digital assistants with a wireless Internet connection.

WFAA.com/mobile provides Channel 8's top news in a way that's easier for the small screen on a portable device to display.

You get the full news stories, without any additional editing; the format has been simplified to permit text display in a cell phone-friendly single column.

There's also a "lite" version of the latest News 8 weather report, including current conditions, the 5-day outlook, five live radar images and the view from our downtown Dallas Webcam.

You'll also have a handy connection to Gary Cogill's movie reviews, the latest features from Channel 8's Computer Corner and sports news.

WFAA-to-go works on any mobile phone or personal digital assistant that has a connection to the Internet. Most new cell phones have this capability built-in; a growing number of PDAs either have a cellular connection built-in or can be equipped with a Wi-Fi wireless adapter to permit Web access in limited areas (like airport waiting rooms and coffee shops).

Unfortunately, there is no standard way that Internet connections are implemented on mobile devices; you'll need to check the manual of your phone or PDA if you're unsure how to access an Internet address.

One more thing: Be sure to double-check the conditions of your cellular account before linking up with WFAA.com or any other online service.

Many wireless phone providers charge extra for Web access. Sometimes the fee is regulated by how much data you download; other accounts feature unlimited data access.
