NORFOLK (AP) -- The 24th annual Clean the Bay Day is scheduled for June 2 and the hunt is on for volunteers.
The cleanup sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation typically involves thousands of Virginia residents who work on foot and by boat to remove trash from hundreds of miles of streams, shorelines and beaches. Last year, more than 6,500 volunteers removed 200,000 pounds of trash.
Cleanup sites are available throughout Hampton Roads, Virginia's Eastern Shore and within the estuary's far reaches in north and central Virginia.
This year's cleanup is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers must register in advance.
