NORFOLK -- Christmas Day has come and gone and soon you'll be taking the decorations off the tree.

Remember to put your real tree on the curb or take it to drop-off points so localities can collect them and turn them into mulch for use in medians and plantings around city buildings.

“It’s a nice way to extend the life of your Christmas tree,” said Julia B. Hillegass with the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, which spearheads askHRgreen.org.

Remember, your tree has to be free of all ornaments, lights tinsel and stands. Place it away from your normal bulk waste and regular trash so it can be easily collected. Do not put in a bag or put netting around it.

Many localities already have pickups scheduled. Here's the list so far.
