KinderVision is a community safety campaign designed to teach children how to avoid dangerous situations that could lead to abduction.

KinderVision was started in 1991 as the result of the kidnapping and murder of a seven-year-old victim named Leticia. After extensive research into the issue of child abduction, it was discovered that there were no adequate educational programs to teach children how to avoid abduction. WVEC has brought KinderVision to Hampton Roads to fulfill this important mission.

KinderVision events are held throughout Hampton Roads through the support of our KinderVision sponsors. Safety and educational materials will be distributed free of charge to the public.

Here's what you'll find at each KinderVision event:

• Children receive a free KinderVision child safety videotape, showing real-life situations to illustrate how to avoid danger. Your child will actually be on this videotape, encouraging repeat viewing and reinforcing these crucial lessons in safety.
• Children will be videotaped and fingerprinted, with pictures taken at a height chart and recordings made of your child's voice. This could prove invaluable to law enforcement in the event the child is missing or abducted.
• Representatives from local law enforcement are invited to present safety tips.
• Meet KindiBear, the KinderVision mascot.
