NEWPORT NEWS-- Volunteers brought out the rakes, wheelbarrows and trash bags Friday for the James River Association's Extreme Stream Makeover.
Everyday this week, about 100 volunteers worked to restore a watershed off of the James River.
This year, the focus was the Stoney Run watershed which runs into the Warwick River, a tributary of the James River.
Participants removed trash, built rain gardens and planted buffers alongside the stream.
The James River Association also hopes to create awareness and promote education of water quality issues.
