Several cities have canceled or rescheduled holiday parades scheduled for Saturday due to the forecast of winter weather. Here are the latest updates provided to 13News:
Suffolk
Parade canceled. City staff will notify all parade participants and entry fees will be returned. Other indoor holiday events will go on as scheduled, including the "Prancer" movie at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.
Hampton
Lighted boat parade rescheduled for Sunday night at 6:00 p.m.
Virginia Beach
"Holiday Parade at the Beach" rescheduled for Sunday at 5:30 along the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.The event features giant balloons, marching bands, lighted floats, equestrian units, fire trucks, performing dance groups, motorcycles, and more. The parade travels North on Atlantic Avenue from 15th to 25th Street.
Chesapeake
Annual holiday parade held by the Great Bridge Jaycees was postponed to Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Parade begins at Colon Hall Stadium on Mt. Pleasant Road. A tree lighting ceremony will be held at Chesapeake City Hall Sunday at 5:00.
Hertford, N.C.,
Annual Perquimans County Christmas Parade rescheduled to Sunday at 2:30. Organizers would like participants to line up at 12:30.
Portsmouth
Annual holiday parade will go on rain or shine, unless there's a major downpour. The parade is at Victory West Shopping Center at the corner of Airline Blvd. and City Park Ave. Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Williamsburg
Parade cancelled due to adverse weather forecast, per Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance.
Elizabeth City
Parade rescheduled for Sunday evening.
Norfolk
Holiday Tree Lighting and Yule Log Fire, scheduled for Saturday at 4, is cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Tree will be lit by one of Santa's elves and will remain lit through the holiday season.
