ST. PAULS, N.C. (AP) -- Police in a Robeson County town say a homeless man from Suffolk was killed after falling asleep under a tractor-trailer that crushed him while driving away.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that 33-year-old Mark Walton Davidson was pronounced dead Tuesday after being found at a St. Pauls truck stop.
The Robeson County medical examiner says Davidson died of head trauma.
St. Pauls Police Chief Thomas Hagens says Davidson apparently crawled under the truck and fell asleep. The driver apparently didn't realize the man had been crushed because the truck left the parking lot without stopping.
Hagens says police have identified the company that owns the truck and are trying to find the driver. He doesn't expect any charges to be filed.
