VIRGINIA BEACH-- Mayor Will Sessoms says that the funding gap for Virginia Beach city public schools could prove to be larger than the 49-million dollar figure currently being talked about.

Sessoms says the city is facing some tough decisions, ones that may not be politically popular, but he is committed to doing what is best for the city, even if it means a property tax increase.

"I will not sit back and let the quality of life in Virginia Beach go down," the mayor says. " We must do everything we can to make sure we have an efficiently run city and school system. But at the same time, if we get to the point, where new revenues are required, we certainly must evaluate it."

Sessoms went on to say that a vast majority of residents of  Virginia Beach have paid less in real estate taxes in the last three years.
