PERQUIMANS COUNTY, NC -- A  construction worker from Myrtle Beach, SC is charged with the murder of North Carolia man found dead in a ditch on Tuesday in Perquimans County.

Michael Helms turned himself in in connection with the death of Chad Colson, who hadn't been seen since Saturday night when he was shooting pool at "The Store" on Holiday Island Road, not far from where his body was found and not far from where he lived.

Colson had several cuts on his upper torso. His wallet and cell phone were missing. He was identified after an investigator recognized his tattoo.

Colson had been arrested February 5 for felony breaking and entering.  The case was dismissed because the victim dropped the charges.

Authorities say Helms, who is in jail, was in town with a group of construction workers doing a project.
