RICHMOND — Virginia State Police say one person was killed and another was injured when a tour bus carrying part of the production crew for Miley Cyrus overturned, but the 16-year-old "Hannah Montana" star was not on board.

She also was not on any of the four buses in the caravan that was traveling to Greensboro, NC for a Sunday performanceSgt. Thomas Molnar says the bus overturned around 8:15 a.m. Friday on Interstate 85 South in Dinwiddie, which is about 40 miles south of Richmond.

The bus ran off the left side of the road, overturned and came to rest on its right side.

Everyone on the bus got out through the front windshield, according to investigators.

The bus driver, William Douglas, 53, of Austin, Texas, was killed; Marty Zilio of Canada was taken by ambulance to Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg for treatment of minor injuries.

The Cyrus family released a statement Friday afternoon.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill "Uncle Bill" Douglas. Members of our tour are like members of our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy. He will truly be missed."

Members of the tour, some still wearing pajamas, began transferring backpacks and laptops from the wrecked bus into two others parked outside a restaurant about 40 miles south of Richmond

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus, who also appears on the family friendly sitcom "Hannah Montana."
