NORFOLK -- Ground was broken Wednesday on a housing complex in the Fort Norfolk section of Norfolk.

Andrew McCullough with Portsmouth-based 139 Riverview LLC and Mayor Paul Fraim kicked off  Riverview Lofts, a multi-family development in the converted Krisp-Pak Building.

The 85,000 square foot complex on the Elizabeth River will have 81 one- and two-bedroom units and include a rooftop pool, deck and workout area, according to Commonwealth Architects of Richmond.

The complex is close to the Light Rail stop.

Newer developments in Fort Norfolk are Harbour's Edge, an upscale senior's housing develoment, and the nine-story Fort Norfolk Medical Plaza.  Long-time businesses include WVEC-TV, Phil's Cafe, the Norfolk Health Department, CHKD Medical Center and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
