VIRGINIA BEACH – If you have an old car seat, recycle it – for safety’s sake.

All this month, Drive Safe Hampton Roads is collecting used child safety seats.

Each year, the drive collects hundreds of car seats -- some that could be dangerous.

“(If)it's missing some parts and its pieces, if it has no labels … been involved in a crash. If you don't know where that safety seat has been, it could be hiding a multitude of dangerous issues," says Mary Ann Rayment with the Virginia DMV.

Drop off locations are Wal-mart Superstores (except Williamsburg and Gloucester), DMV Customer Service Centers, AAAoffices.

In exchange, Wal-mart will give $5 gift cards.

For the third year, the car seats will be recycled as part of 13News’ Project Green with TFC Recycling.

For more information, call 757-498-2562.
