VIRGINIA BEACH -- Detectives are investigating a daylight break-in in the usually sleepy Cape Story by the Sea neighborhood.
Burglars broke into a home on Shore Drive on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Neighbors say they got away with a flat screen TV and a computer.
The Cape Story by the Sea Neighborhood Watch Group sent out an e-mail to all of its residents alerting them about the burglary. The homeowner believes it happened between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m..
Pat Troutman lives a few doors down from the house that was hit. She says her husband may have heard the burglars break down the door.
"He was out here working. He heard it, but he didn't think anything of it because it's in the middle of the day," said Troutman.
Kim Cohen lives next door to the house that was burglarized.
"It really upsets me because you want to think that you're going to hear something when your neighbors are in trouble or there's something going on. You think you're going to hear it," said Cohen.
The burglary is the latest in a string of crimes that have been reported in the neighborhood.
"We've had mailbox problems where people have gone into the mailboxes. They were looking for money in Christmas cards," said Cohen.
Troutman said that just a week and a half ago, an officer went door-to-door warning residents about recent car break-ins and thefts.
Virginia Beach Police have not shared any suspect information, but officers are still investigating.
