WAYNESBORO - Buddy, an eagle born at Norfolk Botanical Garden in 2008, has a new home.
It was moving day last Thursday at The Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro, where Buddy's lived since being taken for treatment of Avian Pox.
His 20' x 24' enclosure has several perches that can be raised and lowered and has a water feature.
Buddy, born in April 2008, was moved to the Center in May after a growth appeared on his beak.
Buddy became a permanent member of the Center in April 2009 after veterinarians determined Avian Pox caused enough damage to his beak that he wouldn't survive in the wild.
He was then officially named Buddy, a name that WVEC.com eagle cam fans had given him.
Training continues to have Buddy become an education animal. He'll ultimately need to sit calmly on a handler’s gloved hand during programs and presentations away from the Center.
Wildlife Center officials say proceeds from the sale of the 2011 Garden of Eagles calendar helped pay for Buddy's new home.
