VIRGINIA BEACH--- "The Extreme" twists and turns at a high speed, and for many at Mt. Trashmore Fair, it's a thrilling ride.
But a boy riding "The Extreme" in Virginia Beach injured his shoulder, sending him to the hospital Thursday.
Ride superintendent Scott McNeil says the child wasn't holding on or following the safety rules.
"The only thing I can see him doing is saying, "Hey! No hands!"
The ride shut down after the accident. Virginia Beach inspected it and labeled "The Extreme" safe.
But depending on your health, it could be a risk. Before you hop on a ride, McNeil says make sure you've had a physical in the past year.
The spinning and shaking can irritate undiagnosed medical problems. Also, tired children are more likely to get hurt.
"Whenever you let the kids get on these rides, you know injuries can happen," a parent said.
The injured boy will be OK, but McNeil said the trouble was preventable.
"When people come to amusement parks, they throw their brains in the trunk and say, "Ah, look at the lights!"
