YORK COUNTY –  A toddler was ejected from a car during an accident on Thursday afternoon.

It happened about 4:30 at Hampton Highway (Route 134) and York County Road (Rt. 600) in York County.  It involved three vehicles.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said a Chevy Malibu that was traveling southbound on Hampton Highway went through a red light.  It hit a Chevy Sienna and that's when a two-year old child was ejected from the Malibu.

The Malibu then hit a pickup truck that was stopped at a stop sign.

A seven-year-old child in the Malibu was also hurt.

The children were taken to Riverside Hospital with serious injuries.

Michael Sawyer, the children's father, is charged with running a red light, reckless driving, and failure to secure a child in a child restraint.

Police say alcohol was not a factor.
