NEWPORT NEWS -- Indianapolis-based appliance and electronics company hhgregg needs to hire about 100 people for two stores set to open in Hampton Roads this spring.

The company will hire about 50 workers each at the Newport News and Va. Beach stores.

"As we continue to expand in Virginia, we look forward to hiring talented members of the local community to be part of the hhgregg team,” said Andrew Eaton, regional manager, in a press release. “We encourage those with a friendly attitude and customer service focus to apply. There are many exciting opportunities available to grow with our company.”

Applications for commissioned sales associates, warehouse staff, customer service merchandisers and manager- in-training positions will be accepted online.

Officials stress the company's comprehensive training program, which provides more than 200 hours of training for each sales associate.

The Va. Beach store will be located at 3421 Va. Beach Blvd. in the old Linens N' Things store, said city spokeswoman Carissa Frasca; the Newport News store will open at 12140 Jefferson Avenue in the former Circuit City building near Target next to Patrick Henry Mall, city spokeswoman Kim Lee said.

hhgregg opened its first stores in Virginia in November 2009 with two businesses in the Richmond area.
