CAMDEN CO., NC -- A 71-year-old man was found dead in his home on Sunday after a fire ripped through the building.
Firefighters were called to the house on Duke Street around 2:10 p.m.
They found Martin Israelson dead in the kitchen. He was disabled and spent most of his time alone.
Israelson's friend David Jones checks on him often.
"I'm so sorry I didn't come that morning," Jones said.
Neighbors reported hearing several rounds of gunfire, which is being attributed to the man having fire arms in the home.
Fire crews from Pasquotank and Currituck Counties assisted in fighting the fire.
