KILL DEVIL HILLS -- A petition has been drafted calling for Kill Devil Hills Police Chief Gary Britt to step down over allegations that he abused his authority.
District Attorney Frank Parrish outlined the allegations, ranging from grievance issues to a ticket quota.
"We contend it's a quota and one of my clients complained about it and was terminated," said Dennis Rose, an attorney representing two Kill Devil Hills police officers and two former officers making allegations against Chief Britt.
Britt was suspended with pay for three months last year. He returned to his post on December 22, 2011.
In a written statement, the town said that a professional panel reviewed complaints against Britt and that "there was no evidence identified that indicated anyone was intentionally violating any criminal laws or engaging in any unethical conduct."
Chief Britt said he could not comment on the allegations.
The town manager also declined to comment on the situation.
Although Parrish has drafted the petition calling for a judge to remove Britt from his position, he hasn't filed it. He would not comment on why he did not file the petition.
Rose says the four officers plan to file civil lawsuits against the town over their violation of rights.
