(AP) -- Fresh from winning the Best Picture prize at the Oscars, George Clooney took to the skies and flew into Germany to collect an award for his political and humanitarian work.

The actor/director was presented with the German Media Award by Germany's Labour and Social Affairs Minister Ursula von der Leyen.

Long-time peace activist Clooney founded the advocacy organization Not On Our Watch with fellow actors Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle to provide aid in places of international crises such as Darfur, Burma and Zimbabwe.

Former recipients of the prestigious prize have included Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama.
