ANDY WARHOL TRIBUTE—IN KNIT
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- It’s a fitting tribute to Andy Warhol—if you’re into blankets. An arts group in Pittsburgh wants to cover a downtown bridge named after the pop artist with knitted blankies. The Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh has stitched together the idea to cover the Warhol bridge downtown with individual blankets knitted by more than 1,200 volunteers. The Allegheny County Council has to sign off on the plan, which will see the bridge covered in mid-August—the heart of blanket season—and leave them in place for about a month. Once the blankets are removed, they’ll be washed and given to homeless shelters, nursing homes and animal shelters.
