NEW YORK (AP) — A massive collection of Pierre-Auguste Renoir's personal items is coming up for auction in New York City.
The Heritage Auctions sale on Sept. 19 contains hundreds of personal letters, family photos and other memorabilia. It'll be sold as 143 lots. It offers a candid look inside the life of one of the world's greatest artists.
The auction house has estimated its value at $3 million.
The sale also includes 19 original sculptural plaster models created during Renoir's twilight years, from 1913 to 1918, with the help of a young assistant.
His personal archive remained with his heirs until 2005 when his grandson Paul offered it for sale as a single lot at an auction where it was purchased by the current owner.
Renoir died in 1919.
